Keeping Guard
Isaiah 62:6
“I have set watchmen upon thy walls, O Jerusalem, which shall never hold their peace day nor night: ye that make mention of the LORD, keep not silence,”
In the Bible, God showed us there were three ways we were to guard our lives. One of those ways we see in this verse as God talks about the watchmen upon the walls. When the walls of Jerusalem were built, they built a tower upon those walls in different locations that would become watchtowers for the watchmen to keep guard over the city. The purpose of these watchtowers and the job of the watchmen were to warn the city when they saw the enemy approaching.
In the verse above God told the people of Jerusalem that He had set watchmen upon their walls who day and night would watch for the safety of the city. God said that their voice would be heard day and night if danger was ahead. As I think about this, every Christian needs to set up a watchtower in their life to watch and see any danger that is coming their way. We as Christians must constantly, day and night, be on the watch for sin that will destroy our lives. Day and night we must watch for those things that could destroy the joy and happiness that God wants for us in our lives. There are three areas in our lives that we must set a watchtower to guard.
The first area is in our marriages. Every married couple needs to be on the watch for anything that will destroy their marriage. Watch and be ready for the adulterer or adulteress who would try to destroy your marriage. Watch and be ready for those things that come in life which take time away from couples spending time with each other. Watch and be ready for the financial burdens that can destroy your marriage. I'm saying to the married couples, look ahead and see the dangers that will destroy your marriage, and avoid them.
The second area we must watch is in our home. We must watch for those things in the home that will destroy our families. Be careful about the programs you watch on the TV that will destroy the home. Watch out for the friends who will pull us away from those who live in our home. Watch out for the time wasters in life that keep the family from spending time together. Every home needs to watch for that thing which will destroy it.
The last area we need to watch is our life. As a Christian you must watch for the thing that will destroy your spirit and avoid it. As a Christian you must watch for the thing that will destroy your walk with God, and avoid being around it. As a Christian you must watch for the person who will cause you to backslide or leave your church, and avoid them.
We must keep guard in these three areas. The Devil is out to destroy our marriages, homes and lives. We must keep guard, and look ahead for any danger that will destroy these things and avoid them at all cost.
