1 Samuel 15:2
“Thus saith the LORD of hosts, I remember that which Amalek did to Israel, how he laid wait for him in the way, when he came up from Egypt.”
Have you ever wondered if God is going to come through on His Word and punish those who have attacked His people? At times in the Christian life we almost lose hope that those who do us wrong will ever pay for their wrong doing.
God came to Samuel and told him to have Israel go and utterly destroy the Amalekites for what they did to Israel when they were coming up from Egypt into the Promised Land. The statement in this verse that should encourage all of God's people is, "Thus saith the LORD of hosts, I remember..." How thankful these people should have been that God had a memory that would remember those who tried to hurt them. Every Christian should take solace in this statement because God does remember and He remembers many things.
He remembers what the heathen do unto the people of God. I know it seems that the heathen get away with their wickedness, but let me assure you, God remembers. He remembers how they have gossiped and attacked you. He remembers the very acts and what the heathen have done against the church of God. Don't despair Christian, God remembers!
He remembers what people do to Him as well. God remembers what the judges and politicians do to try and kick Him out of society. He remembers how Hollywood and their wicked society have blasphemed His name and integrity. He remembers the actions of individuals who make it their plot in life to be sure that God's name is removed from every public meeting place. Yes, God remembers!
But let me also encourage you that God remembers the good that Christians do as well. Though at times you wonder if God even sees what you are doing; let me assure you that God not only sees, but He will remember all that you have done for Him. God will remember the work you do every weekend in your ministry. God will remember the sacrifice you made to give money to those when you had no money yourself. God will remember how you went without to make sure the missionary support you promised was taken care of. Christian, don't despair, God remembers!
Though days, months and years pass by and you see no action on God's behalf, let me assure you that God remembers. You may think that God has forgotten all that you have done, but you can take this verse to heart; God remembers. God is not a forgetful God; God is a God whose memory will never be lost. You can take encouragement today in this statement that God remembers, and when He remembers, He will pay back that which you have suffered and given for His cause.
