Getting Dressed Spiritually

“That ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts; And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness.” -- Ephesians 4:22, 24

Have you ever arrived at event to find out that you were not dressed properly for the surroundings? Probably every one of us has either been somewhere over-dressed or under-dressed! When this happens, oh, how we wish we could change clothes instantaneously!

In our text for today we see how we’re to dress spiritually. The old man is the old self, what we were before we were saved. We’re to take those things off and discard them stained, useless clothing! As we grow in the grace and knowledge of the Lord Jesus (II Peter 3:18), we see how much we needed Him. Our old ways are corrupt – rotten, decaying.

The answer to this is get dressed spiritually by putting on the new man. Dr. Edward Routio writes: “The new man is created after God and in the family likeness of God. The brand new man is known by the Christ-likeness exhibited day by day in living out the new life. Righteousness refers to his new conduct toward his fellowmen. Holiness refers to his new conduct towards God. These two are the essential qualities and the evidence of the new man in Christ.”

Are you clothed in the ripped-up, filthy clothes of the old man; or are you properly dressed, wearing God’s clothes, created in righteousness and true holiness?

What is there in your life that is left over from the old man that should be taken off and cast away?
