1/10 Strength for Today

Blinded by Sight

Deuteronomy 1:25
“And they took of the fruit of the land in their hands, and brought it down unto us, and brought us word again, and said, It is a good land which the LORD our God doth give us.”

Moses used the final days of his life to remind the children of Israel of their journey from Egypt to the Promised Land. In the verse above he reminded them how he sent twelve men to spy out the land of Canaan. The purpose of this task was to bring back a report to the people to encourage them. He knew they would need this encouragement in the days ahead.

Here is the truth I want you to see. These twelve men went into the Promised Land and saw all the good of the land. They saw the grapes of Eschol and all the good of the land, but somehow with seeing all the temporal things, they did not see the God Who was going to deliver them into the land. These men were blinded by the temporal. Their eyes were so fixed on what the land had that it blocked them from seeing the God Who could take them into this land.

This happens so many times in our day. God blesses people for doing right with many temporal things and then they forget to look for the God Who has blessed them. I have seen churches get so wrapped up in their buildings and possessions that they forget to get wrapped up in the God Who gave them those things. I have seen people who, in times of hardship, can only see the things that are causing the hardships and they have become blinded and cannot see the One Who can help them through those hardships.

O how careful we must be that we don't let things blind us from seeing God. This is why we complain when hard times come. This is why we get upset at God when things don't seem to be going well. We have let temporal things block our sight of God. We must look beyond the temporal things of life and the hardships of life in order to see that God is right there with us. We must purposely look beyond anything that could block the sight of God if we are going to see God.

Have you let the things of life block your sight of God? Do you seem to see everything else in life and not see God working in your life? Christian, be careful about letting anything block your view from seeing God. You might see everything else in life, but the most important thing you can see is God. Don't become blinded by the sight of the temporal things. Learn to look beyond those things and you will see that God is right there with you. He has always been there for you in the past, and He is there for you right now.
