Are You Cursed

Deuteronomy 28:45
“Moreover all these curses shall come upon thee, and shall pursue thee, and overtake thee, till thou be destroyed; because thou hearkenedst not unto the voice of the LORD thy God, to keep his commandments and his statutes which he commanded thee:”

When a person thinks of a curse, they normally think of witchcraft because that is what we usually associate the word “curse” with. Yet, we learn from the verse above that God curses people as well. We know that God is not a sinner for He cannot sin. Therefore, if God curses something, then the placing of a curse on something is not always bad. For instance, Jesus cursed the fig tree and it immediately withered away. God cursed Sodom and Gomorrah and they were destroyed. As we can see, when God curses something, something bad immediately happens.

In the verse above we learn that God will curse people if He has to. The word “curses” in the verse above means, “to be afflicted.” In other words, when God places a curse on someone, everything will seem to go bad in their life.

That brings me to this question for you; does everything in your life seem to be going wrong? Don't get upset at me! I know that just because bad things are happening in your life does not always mean that God is cursing you. When everything in life is going wrong, we do need to find out if God is cursing us. Let's face it; there are times in our lives when nothing seems to go right. When this happens, many times people will gripe and complain instead of asking themselves the hard question that needs to be answered. We must ask ourselves if God has cursed us because we are doing something wrong.

What is it that would cause God to curse us? According to the verse above it is not listening to the voice of God. According to the verse above if we don't hearken to God's voice, then He will curse us. If everything seems to be going wrong in your life, then you should look at your life and ask yourself if you are obeying all that God has commanded you to do.

For instance, have you listened to the call of God on your life? I fear for many people who run from God's call, for the only thing they are doing is causing God to place a curse on their life. When you know God has called you to do something and you run from God's call, you are only causing God to curse you. Just because a preacher tells you not to do what God has called you to do does not make it right for you to disobey God. God is above the preacher, and for you to listen to the preacher instead of God is nothing more than idolatry. When God has called you to do something, you had better obey!

Let me ask you something else, have you listened to God's voice when He has convicted you of sin? Many times we won't respond to the voice of God about sin that we need to clean up. Christian, when God convicts you about sin in your life, you better get rid of that sin or you will cause God to have to curse you.

Let me ask you one last question, have you listened to the voice of God when He was leading you to get involved in a ministry of the church? When God tells you to go soul winning or get involved in a ministry, obey or else you will have to pay the price for your disobedience.

If everything in your life seems to be going wrong, the first thing you ought to check is if God has cursed you for not listening to His voice. If everything seems to be going right, but you are not listening to God's voice, then quickly start listening before God must curse your life. Don't wait until everything is going wrong to get right, get right before it goes wrong.
