2/27 Strength for Today

Job 24:8
“They are wet with the showers of the mountains, and embrace the rock for want of a shelter."

In the verse above there is a phrase that jumped out at me that encouraged me and should encourage you. This phrase that I am talking about is, “...embrace the rock...” Though this chapter is talking about the actions of those who remove the landmarks and what happened to them because of their actions, we should take this phrase as a lesson of what we should do in our life.

The word “rock” is used well over one hundred times in the Scriptures. In the Scriptures a rock is an illustration of three things. First, a rock is a foundation to build upon. Just as we pour cement to build our houses upon today, the rock is the foundation that a house is built upon. Secondly, a rock is a shelter from the storm. Throughout the Scriptures you will find that people would run to the rocks for shelter from a storm. The reason they would run to the rocks is because the rock would never be moved in the storm no matter how fierce the storm may be. Thirdly, a rock is used as an anchor. Whenever ships would come to shore, they would drop their anchors and fasten them upon the rocks because they knew the rocks would keep them from moving.

The reason I mention these things is because we learn in 1 Corinthians 10:4 that Jesus is Rock. When the verse above says to “...embrace the rock...” we should realize that in each instance mentioned above we should embrace our Rock Who is Jesus Christ. When trying to build our lives, we need to embrace the Rock and build our lives upon Jesus Christ. Jesus is the only firm foundation that you can trust in life. If you build your life upon anything else other than Jesus Christ, you cannot be assured those foundations will stand the storms of life. Yet, when you build your life upon the Rock of Jesus Christ, no matter what life may bring your way, your life will be secure.

When the storms of life come your way, embrace the Rock, for Jesus alone is the only shelter from any storm you may face. When the storms of life come, hold tightly onto Jesus. Don't embrace people, vices or religions, but embrace the One Who can help you through the storms, and that One is the Rock, Jesus Christ.

When deciding whom to anchor your faith and life upon, you can rest assured that Jesus Christ is the Rock that you can anchor your soul upon. He never changes and He is always there for you. He will strongly hold and protect you from the things that would damage your life.

Christian, I encourage you today to embrace the Rock. Who is this Rock that we should embrace? The Rock whom we should embrace is Jesus Christ. Hold onto Him tightly, He will never fail you. Jesus alone is the sure foundation Who can give shelter and stability in life. As you walk through life simply remember to embrace the Rock!
