The Cause of Little Faith
Matthew 16:8
“Which when Jesus perceived, he said unto them, O ye of little faith, why reason ye among yourselves, because ye have brought no bread?”
Faith is always needed when there is a problem. Such is the case in the verse above. The disciples had crossed over the sea to the other side and they forgot to carry with them some food to eat. Apparently they had mentioned this to Jesus, and because of this He used this as an opportunity to teach His disciples.
When they told Jesus they had no bread, Jesus then warned them of the “...leaven of the Pharisees and of the Sadducees.” The disciples privately discussed with themselves that Jesus apparently made this statement because they had not brought any bread. Jesus, perceiving what they were privately saying said to them, “O ye of little faith…” Jesus rebuked them for their lack of faith in Him to be able to feed them though they had no bread. He asked them if they forgot about the feeding of the five thousand and the four thousand and how many baskets of food they took up after each feeding. The whole reason why the disciples had little faith is because they forgot to remember the past works of Jesus.
The main reason why we don’t have enough faith to step out on God's command is because we forget to remember the past works of God in our lives. How important it is for us to remember these past works of God. If we start having a short memory of God’s past works, then we will not have the faith to step out on God’s command.
This is why it's important that you keep records of the works of God in your life. We as humans are very forgetful. God can do something in our lives last week, and this week we are complaining that God hasn't done anything for us in a long time. Part of this is because Satan is constantly attacking our faith, but another part of this is our lack of remembering the works of God. If you are going to have the faith to step out into the will of God for your life, then you are going to have to remember His past works in your life to have enough faith to obey His commands. The only way you are going to continue to remember the past works of God in your life is to keep good records of those works.
Don't be a forgetful Christian! On a weekly basis go through your records of what God has done for you so that when He asks you to do something, your faith is not too little to step out. Forgetfulness is the whole cause of little faith. You will only have much faith by purposely remembering the works of God. The size of your faith is determined by the size of your memory. Keep remembering God’s past works in your life and you will have enough faith to do anything God asks you to do today.
