And They Shall Know

Ezekiel 30:8
A very sad statement is made in this verse when God says, “And they shall know that I am the LORD, when I have set a fire in Egypt...” Of all nations, Egypt should have known that God is the LORD. They saw the power of the LORD's hand when He delivered Israel out of Egypt. They saw the power of the LORD's hand when He closed the waters of the Red Sea upon their army. What more would God have to do to prove to them that He is the LORD? Yet in the verse above God would again have to prove to Egypt that He is the LORD.

Throughout the Scriptures you will find that God had to drive people and nations to the brink of destruction or to destruction in order for them to acknowledge that He alone is the LORD. In the pinnacle of Nebuchadnezzar's power God drove him into the wilderness to eat like an animal until he finally acknowledged that God is the LORD. In Noah's day God had to send a flood to destroy the world for them to see that He is the LORD. It took fire from Heaven to destroy their cities for Sodom and Gomorrah to understand that God is the LORD. It took God sending fire from Heaven to consume Elijah's altar in order for Ahab and Israel to acknowledge that He is the LORD. What a sad commentary that God would have to destroy these and many others in order for them to acknowledge that He is the LORD.

The name “LORD” means, Jehovah God. It means that Jehovah is the self-existent or eternal God. Whenever you see the word “LORD” in all capital letters in the Scriptures, it is talking about God as Jehovah God. So in the verse above God said that He had to destroy Egypt with fire in order for them to acknowledge that He is the LORD.

What will it take for you to acknowledge that God, Jehovah God, is the Almighty God? We should not be so hardheaded that God would have to bring us to the brink of destruction for us to acknowledge that He alone is Jehovah God. God has already shown us enough of His power by saving us from our sins that we should acknowledge that He alone is the LORD.

I wonder at times how far God will have to take America in order for her to acknowledge that Jehovah God is the LORD. The world wants to say there are many gods, and they are right, but only one God is Jehovah God. Only Jehovah God is the LORD!

I say to every Christian, don't push God to the point where He must prove Who He is to you by destroying you. I say to America, don't push God to the point where He must destroy you like He has many other nations in order to prove that He alone, Jehovah God, is the LORD. To every person in every nation who reads this devotional, don't make God have to prove to you and your nation that only Jehovah God is the LORD. Jehovah God is the only God Who is worthy or our worship.

Acknowledge that Jehovah God is LORD by accepting His plan of salvation and by serving Him. Sometime today you should take time to personally thank Jehovah God for being LORD.
