Power of Prayer - Summary
The very nature of the human heart should gravitate to the Supreme God that wonderfully and fearfully made us. In Mr. Bound's book (Power through Prayer) there was not much said that didn’t move people. In his book I in the thought that he totally relied on God for the very substance that he became. His heart was focused on encouraging the hearts of those that read his books, many on prayer. The preacher I believe in this book was the focus. As we read and understood the point of the title. I would like to extend what I have learned from this book and through what God has shown me in my life. (With messages, and reading His word) I would like to use power as an acrostic for this endeavor and I hope that I can convey what I want to get out.
P.O.W.E.R.!
The first letter that we come to is “P”. Here it lies, I think of POSITION. The way that we pray is what we are going to take with us throughout our prayer life unless God changes it. The position that we need to take is in hearts, not necessarily physically, but where is my heart. Think about the tallest point that man can safely get to, there he is still under God. When a man prays if his heart is not right, he would be like a Pharisee, and a hypocrite. This is the most important thing that I think that we can do as we seek to pray to God, for other, advances in ministry, personal, family and friends’ health. We must realize that in our prayer life, just to go to God is an act of humility, because people know that God can do at His will. If God hears their prayer that is a different story, because He is not their Father, or that there is a sin issue.
The second letter is “O”. In this I think of OVERTIME. I wonder sometimes how a man can take time to pray and fulfilled for only a short minute a day? I know that prayers that are short bursts are needed in our life on a moment by moment basis. I consider my life in prayer, which is nothing to place in this realm of overtime. I started out small have worked up, but I sit wonder what takes a man to his knees for 4, 5, or even 6 hours of prayer. I wonder what takes a man to his prayer closet in the middle of the night when all else are sleeping. The first thing I see is that they see a need. Spiritual needs drive men to do things that are not of the ordinary. We see a person who needs prayer, or a Pastor sees a congregation that needs prayer and that man will seek God in prayer on their behalf. Secondly, I see that they have a burden to see God work. They what to see the power of God through the lives of others, knowing that they themselves will no longer be able to rely on their own abilities; this I believe will bring a man to his needs. The word overtime brings in the connotation that you are exhausted in prayer, but you are persevering to get a hold of God. The normal time has elapsed and now you are stretching yourself to go further.
The third letter is “W”. Here I think of God’s WILL. When we go to prayer we need to cast our cares on Him for he careth for us. We need to realize that even if we finish our prayers “In Jesus’ Name” God may have a different plan. We must be prepared to accept whatever plan that God has for us. I am going to start to pray on how I ought to pray. I want the Lord to teach me that way I can have a prayer life that is rewarding in that prayers are answered that God may get the glory.
The fourth letter is “E”. This I think of EXPERIENCE. This I think is twofold. We will learn to pray as we pray more. Take time to pray and be a student of prayer in our everyday needs. Secondly pray with and older brother or sister in the Lord. Through that we will learn to pray effective. Really listen to how they seek the throne and really get a hold of God in their prayers.
The final the letter “R”, this is for REVERENCE. In this section I am under much conviction. I don’t always come to God in the proper way. I know that I can come to the throne boldly, but I still need to show some reverence to the Lord and come with a broken and contrite heart. When we go prayer we need to understand fully that we are going to the MOST HIGH GOD. I think that in my life I allow my personality, in a bad way, to come into my prayers. I allow things to cloud my mind and not allow the Holy Spirit to control my prayer time. We can use the scriptures as we pray and allow God to work through them the focus here is to make sure that we are seeking the Lord in the proper manner. This in different that humility, this is all about attitude.
In this generation of powerless Churches, powerless Revivals, powerless Christians we need to get to our need for a time of prayer. This is the most important thing that we CAN do, pray and pray some more. In our prayers let’s think of God as if He is right there. How do you see God when you pray? Do you see Him on the throne, when you as for forgiveness for sins committed? Do you grab His hand and just walk and talk with Him in the garden alone. Or, is God missing you terribly? Do not even take the proper time to take the proper time to pray effectively? The effectual prayers of a righteous man availeth much. Let’s have some P.O.W.E.R. in OUR PRAYERs!!
