12/13 Strength for Today

Don't Leave Anything Behind
Exodus 10:9
“And Moses said, We will go with our young and with our old, with our sons and with our daughters, with our flocks and with our herds will we go; for we must hold a feast unto the LORD.”

In the verse above, Pharaoh asked Moses with whom he intended to serve the LORD. Moses said that when they left Egypt, they would serve the LORD “…with our old, with our sons and with our daughters, with our flocks and with our herds will we go; for we must hold a feast unto the LORD.” In other words, Moses was telling Pharaoh that he intended to serve the LORD with everything he had and with everyone in his family. Moses was making a statement that nothing should be left out when it comes to serving the LORD.

When you got saved, God intended for you to come out of Egypt along with your family, possessions and finances. God didn't save you with the intent of you continuing to stay in the world; no, He saved you with the intent that you would serve Him with everything that you have.

One of the sad things I often see is that in many Christian households there are some who are not serving the LORD. Sometimes I will see parents serving the LORD and their children living like the world. On the other hand, there are times when I see the children on fire for God, and the parents are critical of their children's involvement in God's service. This ought not to be! God intended for you to serve Him as a family. Your family will never reach the potential that God has for it unless the whole family gets on board and serves Him together. It should never be the parent fighting against the children and vice versa. It should be everyone serving God together as a family.

Furthermore, God not only wants us to serve Him as a family, but He also wants us to serve Him with our possessions and finances. If you don't serve God with your possessions and finances, then one day you will stop serving Him. God says in Matthew 6:21, “For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.” If you don't put everything you have into serving the LORD, then your service for the LORD will be short lived.

Christian, serve God as a family. Whether you are the parent or the child, don't fight against those who are serving the LORD, but rather join them. Then, be sure that you serve God with your possessions and finances so that one day you won't find yourself living in the world. If you leave anything in the world, then one day you will go back to be with it. If you want to guarantee yourself to never go back into the world, then serve God with everything you have.
