12/17 Merry Christmas Series

Part 4 of 5

4. Do special things for others.

If all you do is make Christmas about what you get, then you will have a miserable Christmas. One of the ways to make this Christmas season the best you have ever had is to do special things for others. Let’s face it, the first Christmas was about Christ coming for us and not about Christ coming for Himself. Jesus Christ gave us an example to make Christmas about others, and we should follow His example.

Here are some ideas of how you could do something for others. First, you could send a missionary a special Christmas package. If you are going to do this, you must remember that mail takes a whole lot longer to get there during the Christmas season, so you will probably have to do this at the beginning of the month.

Secondly, you could go visit some people in the nursing home as a family, sing Christmas carols and give them small gifts.

Another idea is you could invite someone who is going to spend Christmas alone over for your Christmas meal. It would be wise when asking them to come that you tell them you would like for them to come over for three hours for Christmas dinner. This gives them a time frame when you expect to entertain them and will help you in not being frustrated when they don’t know when to leave.

You could also go as a family to different church members homes to give them a pie and wish them a merry Christmas, and then leave. You are not going there to spend time, you are simply going there to give them something to let them know you love and appreciate them.

Whatever you do, get creative in doing things for others during Christmas. You will enjoy Christmas a whole lot more when you start doing things for others.
