You're Not Invincible

1 Kings 9:9

One of the mistakes that many successful Christians make is that they think they are invincible to the judgment of God. What I mean by this is that they will often think that, because of their status in Christianity, God would never take them down. They often think that they can get away with sin because they can hold their status over God's head. This is nothing short of haughtiness, and God can and will take someone like this down if He must.

In the verse above, God warns Solomon that if Israel ever forsook God that He would destroy them. The house that Solomon built for the LORD was certainly magnificent. Yet, even as great as this house was, God promised that the magnificence of this house and the history of Israel would not stop Him from judging them if they left Him. Of course, when you study Israel's history, you see that God destroyed the temple and sent Israel into bondage because of their sin. Though they were God's people, this did not stop Him from judging them when they did wrong.

You must be careful about becoming overconfident in your status with God. Just because you have done a lot for God, or are doing a lot for God, does not mean that you can get away with sin. If God judged David for his sin, then He will certainly judge you for your sin. If God judged Saul for his sin, then He will judge you for your sin. If God judged Samson for his sin, then He will judge you for your sin. Your status in your church or among Christianity does not give you a pass to do whatever you want. God will judge you for your sin if He must.

Furthermore, God can and will take down successful churches that stray from His Word. Without me mentioning any churches, throughout history there were many churches God destroyed that had a national influence. Just because a church is known throughout your country or even the world does not give them a free pass to compromise. If God took down this magnificent temple that Solomon built because of Israel's sin and compromise, then He will most certainly take down any modern day church that would compromise or continue in sin.

I say all of this because we should take this as a warning to guard ourselves from compromise and sin. There is no person or church that is invincible from God's judgment. God will judge sin and compromise. Any person or church that sins or compromises will be judged. Be careful that you don't allow yourself to have a false sense of security in your status. Your status does not give you a free pass to sin. God has judged others in the past, and He will judge you if He must. The best way to keep from facing God's judgment is to get rid of any sin and avoid compromise at all costs. The only security you or a church can have in keeping God's blessings is living right and avoiding compromise.
