1/26 Strength for Today

God is a God of His Word
2 Kings 10:10
“Know now that there shall fall unto the earth nothing of the word of the LORD, which the LORD spake concerning the house of Ahab: for the LORD hath done that which he spake by his servant Elijah.”

There are many things in this life that we cannot depend on, but there is one thing for certain on which you can always depend and that is the Word of God. If God says that He is going to do something, then you can put your bottom dollar down that He will come through.

It says in the verse above, “...for the LORD hath done that which he spake by his servant Elijah.” It is interesting that this verse brings up Elijah's name. Fifteen years prior to this time God spoke through Elijah that He would destroy all of Ahab's seed. Fifteen years of God's people wondering if God would honor His Word, and yet, though Elijah was gone and in Heaven, God still honored His Word.

Christian, how encouraging this ought to be for you. One reason it ought to encourage you is that even though Elijah was no longer on Earth, God still honored His Word. The dependability of God's Word is not based upon man, but it is based upon the fact that God gave His Word. As humans we tend to compare God's actions to ours, and this is a bad comparison. Human beings may falter on their word when the one whom they promised is no longer around, but God bases His Word upon Himself. If God says He will do something, then He will.

Mark 13:31 says, “Heaven and earth shall pass away: but my words shall not pass away.” Notice, God's Words are not based upon human reasoning, human presence or even the presence of Heaven and Earth. God's Words are based upon Him. God promises that every part of His Word shall be fulfilled. There are two things I want you to take away from this thought.

First of all, don't get discouraged when God has not yet honored His Word to you. Christian, God will honor His Word. God might choose to honor His Word when you are gone, but He will honor His Word. God might not immediately honor His Word, but He will honor His Word eventually. Whatever it is that God has promised, you can be confident that God will let nothing fall away from His promise to you.

Secondly, if God honors His Word, then you should follow His example and honor your word. When you say you are going to do something, then be as dependable as God with your word. Even if someone's presence is no longer there to hold you accountable, you should let your word hold you accountable.

As a Christian you are to follow God's example, and His example is to always honor His Word. Just as God is known to be One Whom you can count on when He says He is going to do something, you should be like Him and do your best to be known as a person who can always be counted on when you give your word.
