2/26 Genesis 29 Tricked!

(Gen 29:25 KJV) And it came to pass, that in the morning, behold, it was Leah: and he said to Laban, What is this thou hast done unto me? did not I serve with thee for Rachel? wherefore then hast thou beguiled me?

We all will reap what we have sown, as Jacob did here. The “trickster” has been tricked! Be assured that a life of deception and scheming will always turn back on you, and “rend” you in a very important, and sometimes hurtful, way. Jacob learned that lesson here, but he was not finished learning yet! He was in for a few more surprises himself. Laban seems to have “pegged” Jacob right off, and decided that he was going to turn the tables on him; perhaps the Lord revealed it to Laban before Jacob arrived there.

The Bible speaks much of honest dealings, and especially where money is concerned. (Prov. 11:1; 16:11; etc.) A liar will cheat, and a cheater will lie! We ought to be teaching our children not to cheat! Mark it down, friend, sin comes in “bundles,” and not singularly. So too, the reproaches of sin! One sin always leads to another, no matter how seemingly trivial it may be, and they always affect others in some way! Sin never visits us just one time, and seldom comes to us alone; it brings many friends! Folks, honesty is still the best policy!

Because of Jacobs’ beguiling ways, he becomes a bigamist, and God did not bless bigamy! Leah bore Jacob his first four children, then, they began to compete, and had their handmaids bear children to him too, then things got quite out of hand! Sin always gets “out of hand”. It will take you further than you want to go; keep you longer than you want to stay; and cause you more grief in the long run than you care to afford. Jacob learned this the hard way, will you? Honesty is still the best policy.
