3/ 16 Through the Bible in Devotions

Genesis 46 God with us

“I will go down with thee into Egypt; and I will also surely bring thee up again:” (v. 4)

God was talking to the entirety of Israel, and not only to Jacob. He did bring Israel out of Egypt some 400 years earlier. Here though, we have a special promise given to Israel, and to us, by proxy: “I will go down with thee…” It is a wonderful blessing to know that wherever we go, God goes with us. He stayed with Jacob all the time, just as He is with us all the time today. God did not always indwell His people in the Old Testament, but, thank God, He lives in believers us today! This ought to both excite us, and cause us to dread, because we take Him with us when we enter the den of thieves, and the pit of iniquities in this world, and upon the sweet mountaintops of life. Yes, God indwells His people…when we are “down” he remains with us.

Romans 8:9 tells us that if we have Christ, we have His Spirit also, and, in fact that entire chapter says much about the Holy Spirit of God, and is well worth reading often. Friend, are you “tarrying for the Holy Spirit”? Don’t tarry any more, just get busy! He dwells within you! Don’t sit around waiting for the sign or the “filling” but go, go, go (the word “gospel” begins with “go”). One preacher said, “If you take the “go” out of Gospel, all you have left is a “spell”. The Lord has commanded us to go and reach the multitudes for Christ. The Holy Spirit arms us with the power to do so, and He will be with us when we go.

God is with you, He is IN you (if you are saved), and wants you to be close to Him. If we “walk in the Spirit” we will not fulfill the lusts of the flesh. Let’s be mindful of His Spirit, and be careful where we take Him, and what we do with His mighty power. Don’t be confused by the traditions and “vain philosophies” of men, but take God at His Word, and walk with Him. Forget about the gibberish and the foolishness that is prevalent today, and get busy for the Lord. That is what the power of the Holy Ghost is for, the promoting of the Gospel, unto the glory of God.
