Genesis 41 Prophesying
And for that the dream was doubled unto Pharaoh twice; it is because the thing is established by God, and God will shortly bring it to pass. (v. 32)
Here we have a principle for determining God’s established laws, this is true all throughout the Bible. Many things were repeated, and thereby established by God, and as sure as God Himself! These repeated warnings and teachings can be seen as a promise, as well as a warning, both signed, sealed, and delivered by the Almighty; (Mt. 23:37; 1 Chron. 12:18; Isa. 57:19; Jer. 6:14, etc,). These double exclamations, (and there are more), solidify the message of God in each case, they “seal” the promise or judgment, and are repeated for emphasis. One command; one principle in the Word of God is enough for us to obey and trust in, but when it is doubled unto us, it becomes so much more urgent and we need to take special care to get the message that God is revealing to us.
Joseph, the “Dreamer” of dreams, was also an interpreter of dreams, a “Prophet.” Just as the sign of a prophet is given as a truth that will definitely come to pass, (Jer. 28:9), so it is with the “dreamer of dreams” when they are from God Himself. Many men have many strange dreams, but those which “come to pass” and which glorify and honor God, those you can depend on. One can hardly know this, of course, until after the fact. As a prophet “tells forth” the things of God, a dreamer reveals His will as well as His judgments, and especially when he can interpret the dream, as Joseph did. Joseph said “It is not in me” making it very clear that interpretations come from God, (vs. 16, 25, 28, and 31). When we exalt the Lord, He will exalt us. It behooves us all, then, to glorify Him, and lift Him up in our lives; as He rises in glory, He takes us along with Him, and the more glory He receives, the more we get too. That’s just the way it works! This is true in every aspect of life. If children and wives exalt and promote their dad or husband, they reap the benefits of his success, it’s just a fact of life; if they seek to discourage him, they also fall with him, and reap the tragedy of his failures. Joseph proved himself to be quite a “man of God” by his character and his faith.
