Genesis 34 Friends!
(Gen 34:1 KJV) And Dinah the daughter of Leah, which she bare unto Jacob, went out to see the daughters of the land.
This is often where sin begins. Though one could not rightly accuse Dinah of fornication, if she did not desire to fraternize with the world, this never would have happened. Ladies, be careful of just “going out with the girls” of the world, it can, and often will, lead to trouble of some degree. When we get out of God’s will, out of the “secret place” of God, the place already chosen for us to be, any evil can pursue us, and we have little strength against it.
Many children stray from the way of their parents, and learn these lessons the hard way, as Dinah did. They too, seek to “play” with the neighborhood kids, and to be a “friend” to the ungodly. We need to pick our kids’ friends; parents, don’t be afraid to do so, there is a lot at stake! Are we not wiser than they? Aren’t we more aware of “hidden” dangers, not so obvious to them? Don’t let the world dictate how you raise your children. Before we ever get to this place though, we need to be sure we know the difference between the holy and the profane! This is not always easy for us to discern.
Look at your child's friends. Are they too worldly in dress, in speech, in actions? If so, WATCH OUT! Remember, this world is at enmity with God, and His people! Don’t be afraid to parent your children. Pray for the Lord’s guidance and discernment, then trust your “intuition” as to whom your children should be allowed to run with. Sometimes, even in a Christian environment, it is not good that they run with certain other kids. We need to be “wise as serpents, and harmless as doves” in every area of life, and this area is not to be neglected either lest we look forward to a broken heart in the future. Dinah’s mistake was a lack of separation from the world; Jacob’s was to let her go! Please don’t you make the same mistake whether from the daughters view, or the fathers’. Take charge of your family.
