4/20 Devotions in Exodus

Exodus 20 The “Big Ten”

“Thou shalt have no other gods before me.”

This commandment is probably the “king” of all the commands of God. The violation of this commandment brought more grief, more judgment to Israel than any other command in the Bible. Much more, by far. How could we even think of putting another god before our God? He is so great, and wonderful.

It is amazing how often Christ shows up in these chapters of the Old Testament, whether in Person, or power, or principle, He is always there. In nearly every chapter we see Him: He is the Lamb; the ram; the total Sacrifice; the bullock; the fire; the Tabernacle; the Passover; the Creator; the Provider; the Wise One, the Strengthener; He is the Prophet; the Priest: the king; the Bright and morning Star; the Daystar; He is the gold; the silver; the brass; the precious stones; the urim and cummin; He is the wind; the Spirit; the Angel of the Lord; and the Judge: He is the Sun, the Moon, and the Stars; The Branch; the Avenger of blood; the City of Refuge: The Separated One; the Prosperity of men; He is in the Honey of the carcass; the Water and the Rock; The Oasis in the desert; the Fragrance of the frankincense; the prince of Peace: The Counselor; Immanuel; The Almighty God; the Everlasting Father; He is the Light; the Life; the Truth; He is Purity, and Purpose; A Tower; a Shelter in time of storm: He is a Fortress; a Tree; He is breath; He is the Lily in the valley; the Rose of Sharon; The Wisdom of God: He is Sanctification; He is Holiness; He is Forgiveness; He’s our Buckler, our Shield; our Sword; Our ever-present Help; He’s our Haven of rest; our Joy, our Hope: He is our Liberty; our Temple; our Tent in the wilderness; He’s the Anointed One; our Advocate; The Redeemer of our souls; He’s our Savior; our beginning and our end; He is the Christ of God; the First-begotten from the dead; The First-Fruits of righteousness; He is the Alpha and the Omega; the First and the Last; Jesus is the only Way: He is the first and latter rain; the Bride; the Body; the Church; The Living Word; the Shekinah glory; the Head of all things; the Lion of the tribe of Judah; the Scepter; the Rod; the Staff; He’s Shiloh; a Cloud, and a Pillar. He is seen as all these, and more. He is “altogether lovely”
