Exodus 33 “A place by Me”
“And the LORD said, Behold, there is a place by me, and thou shalt stand upon a rock:” (v. 21)
Oh to find that place by God, close by His side, and stand solidly upon The Rock of Christ. One would have to walk with Him, to know Him to be in such a lovely position. Moses asked to see God, as many of us desire to do, and God honored his request. Though He talked to Moses “face to face” (Deut. 5:4) Moses had never seen him, no man had, because none could look upon the brightness of His glory and live. God had prepared a place by Him, so that Moses could get a glimpse of Him, but only a quick glimpse, and that from the back of Him as He walked by. There is a place by Him for us too, it is in Christ. We can get no closer, or see no clearer than through Christ. To be close to the Father is the greatest, most desirable thing a man could ever hope to attain to, and yet it is made possible for us today. All we need to do is stand upon the Rock. God wants us to see Him too, in fact, He showed us Himself in Christ! (Jn. 14:9).
What is it to walk with God? It is not easy. Many will argue the point with me here, but I believe that if a man thinks it easy to walk with the Lord, he is blind to “self” and may not know right from wrong. Job made a covenant with his eyes, that he would not look upon evil, but in today’s world, we almost can’t help it, we behold evil at every turn. I know that Job implied that he would not willingly seek after it, but evil rules our streets today, and permeates every aspect of society. It has become a normal thing among the world today. So, how do we walk with God today? The same way Moses did, by standing upon the Rock, the place where God chose to reveal Himself to us. It is not easy to quell memories, or to avoid hearing things we do not wish to hear, or to always get along with our neighbor, but, by the grace of God, we can prevail, but only through Christ. Philippians 4:13 is the promise we claim, “I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me,” and we can. Those things which strengthen us are accomplished because God wants us to be strong in Him, He has made it possible.
