6/10 Devotions From God’s Word

How are You Receiving God’s Word?

Our Duty Series

v20 – “Despise not prohesyings.”

2 Timothy 3.16-17 shows that the Word of God is good for many things for good reason.

This is the preaching of God’s word. I would like to take this in to several different areas in our lives as see get to know the Word of God.

      a. The Preaching Service

      b. The Song Service

      c. Personal Study of God’s Word

I believe that there should two responses to God’s word

      a. Thank you Lord for helping to be faithful

       b. Lord I need your forgiveness I have not followed your word.

Acts 17:11 “These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so.”

What will make our minds ready for receiving God’s Word?  Confession of sin, proper sleep, health, devotion, faith, desire, etc…

John 5:39 “Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me.”

To ready ourselves in anything, we must have a respect of it. Think of a big final – we will take (or should) take a bit more time to study and prepare that we would for a quiz.

This leads to the idea then – how important is the word of God to you? Do you think that God, can work through His Word in your life?

In verse 20 the word despise means to “set at naught” to be careless with the teachings that come from God.
