REJOICE!
Today I would like to share the who, what, when, why and how of rejoicing. It is a command that God has given to us.
Rejoice
This has to be one of the most important verse that a Christian has in his or her life. We can rejoice because of what God has given to us. This word appears 192 times in 183 verses in our KJV Bible. Here are a few. God’s Word again, speaks for its self. The key to rejoicing is the subject matter. This week we found that the Boston Bruins won the Stanley Cup. First time since 1972 – they had a 39 year drought, but this year they can rejoice.
What are we rejoicing about?
Goodness – 2 Chronicles 6.41
Mercy – Psalm 31.7
Hope – Romans 12.12
Who are we rejoicing? (Subject matter)
a) Rejoice in the Lord – Psalm 33.1
(Ps 33:1, 97:12; Isa 41:16, 61:10; Joel 2:23; Hab 3:18; Zec 10:7; Php 3:1, 4:4)
When do we rejoice? When did a Boston Bruin fan start rejoicing?
a) Before the game
b) During the Game when he/she knew they would win it
c) After the game
o It is a sad mention, but many people that were in the war could not rejoice because they were not in the area or close to a media source to get the information. There are people out there that are out there that are not rejoicing because they either forgot about what God has done, or they never knew it.
Why are we to rejoice?
a. What would be the purpose? The simple answer would be because we are on the winning side. No matter how the battle goes – we will win the war.
i. Think of the great salvation
ii. Think of the many blessings
iii. Think of the love that you have
iv. Think of the provisions
How do we rejoice?
a. This is allowing what God did on the inside, to show on the outside.
“There are many more flies caught with honey than with vinegar; and there are many more sinners brought to Christ by happy Christians than by doleful Christians.”(Spurgeon)
“If you cannot speak the gospel, live the gospel by your cheerfulness; for what is the gospel? Glad tidings of great joy; and you who believe it must show by its effect upon you that it is glad tidings of great joy to you. I do believe that a man of God-under trial and difficulty and affliction, bearing up, and patiently submitting with holy acquiescence, and still rejoicing in God-is a real preacher of the gospel, preaching with an eloquence which is mightier than words can ever be, and which will find its secret and silent way into the hearts of those who might have resisted other arguments. Oh, do, then, listen to the text, for it is a command from God, "Rejoice in the Lord alway!" (Spurgeon)
