Galatians 1:4 Who gave himself for our sins, that he might deliver us from this present evil world, according to the will of God and our Father:
1. Who gave himself for our sins –
a. The right ONE for the job – Jesus!
i. Philippians 2:7 “But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men:”
b. Unselfish Behavior – The One to emulate
Galatians 2:20 I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.
Ephesians 5:25 Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it;
1 Timothy 2:6 Who gave himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time.
Titus 2:14 Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.
c. In Totality – The Process of Sin
i. The committing of the sin
Romans 4.25a – “Who was delivered for our offences…”
ii. The consequences of sin
Romans 4.25b “…and was raised again for our justification
iii. The commitment to a new life
Romans 6:8 “Now if we be dead with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with him:”
Summary
In this, one of many, testimonies of Jesus – we find several things. First as many may know that Jesus is the only way. In Galatians this is exactly what Paul is referring too. All of our trust should be on Jesus – for there is no other way to heaven (John 14.6). Secondly we find that no man took the life of Jesus and hung Him on the cross – He Gave it freely. Then, thirdly we see that our sins are taken care of. In every aspect if we allow Jesus to forgive us of our sin then there will be totality in forgiveness. Our lives can be changed into the image – and given a new life.
2. “…that he might deliver us from this present evil world…”
a. During our lives as Christian on earth we need to consider separating from the world and the direction that it is headed.
2 Corinthians 7:1 “Having therefore these promises, dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.”
*If we look to 6.17-18 we see that there is a promise of God if we touch not the unclean thing. So because of the promise we should want to cleanse ourselves and perfecting holiness because of the fear of God.
2 Peter 1:4 “Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.”
*We will be able to escape because of the divine nature as changed the way that we think.
1 John 2:15-16 “Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.”
b. The second part is the delivering from this world and going to heaven. This is the hope of every Bible believing Christian – which they will be in heaven.
1 Corinthians 15:52 “In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.”
1 Thessalonians 4:16-17 “For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.”
Summary
In this second part we see that we are given a new way of going about our business. The sole desire from the Lord is that we might choose Him – because He has already chosen us. He will give us everything that we need to continue to move forward in gaining the victory over this present world.
3. “…according to the will of God and our Father:”
a. 2 Peter 3:9 “The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.”
After spending some time in the word of God we can not help but think of God’s desire. His love, mercy and grace that he has bestowed on all believers is some that should be understood as a gift in not something that we deserve.
b. 2 Peter 1:3 “According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue:”
Not only were we give a new life through salvation – we have all things that pertain to a godly life here on earth. This is the calling of God – to show mercy and kindness to a wick and perverse people.
Summary
In this third part we should be able to notice that God is not wanting anything but the best for our lives. There are people out there that put God down because of the standard that He would like us to live in – but there is a reason: Godliness!
