Special Message: Happy Resurrection Day
Date: Sunday April 08, 2012
Hello My Friend,
I was sitting in a restaurant the Saturday before last, a family was sitting behind us trying to figure out if that Sunday or next Sunday was Easter, the father blurted out, “We cannot miss Easter Sunday.” I kindly looked over and said, “It is next Sunday.” Millions of people all over the world will be in church for Easter, also known as Resurrection Day. For some, it marks the only time they even attend church services. Why is it so important? It is a celebration of the day Jesus gave us victory over Satan, death, and hell. “The sting of death is sin; and the strength of sin is the law. But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.” -1 Corinthians 15:56,57.
While millions of people all over the world will be observing the horrifying and wonderful events that took place almost 2000 years ago, millions will also be finding eggs and baskets filled with candy and gifts left by the Easter bunny. Millions more will do nothing at all, wondering why everything has stopped over some guy they do not even know. Let me tell you, the world can deny that Jesus is God's Son, they can deny that the Bible is not the true Word of God, they can even deny that Jesus resurrected from the dead, but what they cannot deny is that Jesus was here. “It is a faithful saying: For if we be dead with him, we shall also live with him: If we suffer, we shall also reign with him: if we deny him, he also will deny us: If we believe not, yet he abideth faithful: he cannot deny himself.” - 2 Timothy 2:11-13.
So, exactly what happened that gave us victory over Satan, death, and hell? Well, first a sacrifice had to take place. A sacrifice is the act of killing something pure and undefiled, such as an animal or even a person, as a penalty for a mistake or fault. The penalty for a mistake is death, “For the wages of sin is death;” - Romans 6:23a, which gave Satan the victory over sin. To defeat Satan no ordinary sacrifice would do, it had to be a special sacrifice, a sinless sacrifice, the Lord Jesus Christ. “For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.” -2 Corinthians 5:21. Jesus never sinned, He was the only perfect man on earth, had He not been perfect He would not have been able to be the sacrifice.
The day came for Him to die, He was arrested, placed in jail, faced a trial, although not found guilty, His sentence was death by crucifixion. “And there were also two other, malefactors, led with him to be put to death...And one of the malefactors which were hanged railed on him, saying, If thou be Christ, save thyself and us. But the other answering rebuked him, saying, Dost not thou fear God, seeing thou art in the same condemnation? And we indeed justly; for we receive the due reward of our deeds: but this man hath done nothing amiss. And he said unto Jesus, Lord, remember me when thou comest into thy kingdom. And Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, To day shalt thou be with me in paradise. And it was about the sixth hour, and there was a darkness over all the earth until the ninth hour. And the sun was darkened, and the veil of the temple was rent in the midst. And when Jesus had cried with a loud voice, he said, Father, into thy hands I commend my spirit: and having said thus, he gave up the ghost.” - Luke 23:32,39-46.
Jesus' death gave us victory over death, He was the sinless, spotless sacrifice needed to be the atonement or payment for the wages of sin. As Jesus was hanging on a tree in the middle of two criminals, one received Him immediately and was saved. This proves that one does not have to be receive Christ and be baptized to be saved or be good the rest of their life to be saved. It proves that the second a person receives Him, meaning believes in and accepts Him is saved immediately. “For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.” - Romans 10:10.
The second thing needed to give us victory over Satan, death, and hell was His burial. The tomb in which our Lord Jesus Christ was laid was no doubt like the rest of the Jewish burying places, a receptacle for the several dead of a whole family, divided into separate niches, where each had it's place. A believer of Christ offered his tomb, took the dead body, wrapped it up as they would any body being prepared for a burial and placed it in the tomb. “And, behold, there was a man named Joseph, a counsellor; and he was a good man, and a just:..This man went unto Pilate, and begged the body of Jesus. And he took it down, and wrapped it in linen, and laid it in a sepulchre that was hewn in stone, wherein never man before was laid. And that day was the preparation, and the sabbath drew on. And the women also, which came with him from Galilee, followed after, and beheld the sepulchre, and how his body was laid. And they returned, and prepared spices and ointments; and rested the sabbath day according to the commandment.” - Luke 23:50,52-56.
Jesus' burial gave us victory over sin, He is what frees a person from the prison of sin. Sin is destructive, holds one captive, and chains one down. Jesus buries that sin and baptizes the sinner spiritually with His blood, covering all sin, past, present, and future. “Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life. For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection: Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin. For he that is dead is freed from sin.” -Romans 6:4-7.
The third thing to gives us victory over Satan, death, and hell was His resurrection. The day that Jesus arose from the dead. “In the end of the sabbath, as it began to dawn toward the first day of the week, came Mary Magdalene and the other Mary to see the sepulchre. And, behold, there was a great earthquake: for the angel of the Lord descended from heaven, and came and rolled back the stone from the door, and sat upon it...And the angel answered and said unto the women, Fear not ye: for I know that ye seek Jesus, which was crucified. He is not here: for he is risen, as he said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay.” - Matthew 28:1,2,5,6.
Jesus' resurrection gives a person victory over death, hell, and Satan. It is what reconciles the sinner with God and gives life to the dead soul. It is what proves that the only living Almighty God can give life and save life. It is what can give eternal life to all who seek it. “Now if we be dead with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with him: Knowing that Christ being raised from the dead dieth no more; death hath no more dominion over him. For in that he died, he died unto sin once: but in that he liveth, he liveth unto God. Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord...For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” - Romans 6:8-11,23.
So, how do we get eternal life? You ask for it. “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.” - Romans 10:9,10,13.
If you asked Jesus Christ to save you then you have eternal life, He has saved you from death, hell, and Satan. The next time Satan or anyone else tries to tell you otherwise, remember these words, “I am a forgiven child of the living God.” Praise God!
Happy Resurrection Day! Enjoy the rest of your day/night. God Bless You, I am praying for you,
Christina
