5/2 Members of The Body

Message Title: Members of The Body
Date: Wednesday May 02, 2012Today's Chapters: 1 Chronicles 11-12

Hello My Friend,

The body is made up of several members, each member is made for a specific purpose and is useful, for example, hands are used primarily to pick things up. If you had no hands, I am sure you would make a way to pick things up, but it would be a little more challenging to you. That is why God gives us specific members used for specific reasons. “
For the body is not one member, but many. If the foot shall say, Because I am not the hand, I am not of the body; is it therefore not of the body? And if the ear shall say, Because I am not the eye, I am not of the body; is it therefore not of the body? If the whole body were an eye, where were the hearing? If the whole were hearing, where were the smelling? But now hath God set the members every one of them in the body, as it hath pleased him.” - 1 Corinthians 12:14-18.
We are taken back to the account of David finally becoming king of Israel after Saul's death. After years of struggles, patience, and praying, David is finally receiving the promise that God made to him when he was anointed to be king by Samuel. The first thing he does as king is set up his army, David chose men of all tribes who were skilled in specific weaponry instead of choosing just one tribe. “So David waxed greater and greater: for the LORD of hosts was with him. These also are the chief of the mighty men whom David had, who strengthened themselves with him in his kingdom, and with all Israel, to make him king, according to the word of the LORD concerning Israel. And this is the number of the mighty men whom David had; Jashobeam, an Hachmonite, the chief of the captains: he lifted up his spear against three hundred slain by him at one time... And Abishai the brother of Joab, he was chief of the three: for lifting up his spear against three hundred, he slew them, and had a name among the three.” - 1 Chronicles 11:9-11,20.
The body of Christ is made up of several members, or rather people, people from all over the world, every race, color, and language make up the body of Christ. Each member is used for specific reasons. What is the body of Christ? It is every saved, born again believer of Jesus Christ. If you have trusted only in the death, burial, and resurrection of our sinless Savior to save you then you are a member of the body of Christ. Because you are a member of the body of Christ, God has a specific purpose for you. You say that you are not a model Christian? You just got saved? You do not even go to church? None of that matters, you are still a member of the body of Christ and one day He will use you for purpose He made you for. Never let anyone tell you that you are not useful or they are a better Christian than you. We all grow in Christ at different levels, yet we are just as important as everyone else.

For I say, through the grace given unto me, to every man that is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think; but to think soberly, according as God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith. For as we have many members in one body, and all members have not the same office: So we, being many, are one body in Christ, and every one members one of another. Having then gifts differing according to the grace that is given to us, whether prophecy, let us prophesy according to the proportion of faith; Or ministry, let us wait on our ministering: or he that teacheth, on teaching; Or he that exhorteth, on exhortation: he that giveth, let him do it with simplicity; he that ruleth, with diligence; he that sheweth mercy, with cheerfulness.” - Romans 12:3-5.

David continued to set up Israel in the way God directed him, even if that meant he had to deal with some people who he thought was his friends, but were against him in every way. At first, the majority of Israel was against David being king. In fact, they chose Saul's son to reign over them, while David reigned in Hebron. It was not until all of the House of Saul had been killed before they accepted David as their king. “And there came of the children of Benjamin and Judah to the hold unto David. And David went out to meet them, and answered and said unto them, If ye be come peaceably unto me to help me, mine heart shall be knit unto you: but if ye be come to betray me to mine enemies, seeing there is no wrong in mine hands, the God of our fathers look thereon, and rebuke it. Then the spirit came upon Amasai, who was chief of the captains, and he said, Thine are we, David, and on thy side, thou son of Jesse: peace, peace be unto thee, and peace be to thine helpers; for thy God helpeth thee. Then David received them, and made them captains of the band.” - 1 Chronicles 12:16-18.

Because you are a member of the body of Christ you are going to get a lot of criticism, even from other Christians. People will try to test your faith, see if you are a real Christian, and see if they can get you to go against your beliefs. However, once you get past all that you will find some members that will truly help you in your walk with Christ. In the meantime just do what God wants you to do and everything else will fall into place. “Be ye angry, and sin not: let not the sun go down upon your wrath: Neither give place to the devil. Let him that stole steal no more: but rather let him labour, working with his hands the thing which is good, that he may have to give to him that needeth. Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers. And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption.” -Ephesians 4:26-30.
We all have to remember one important thing, God is with us. Satan knows this, in fact, the stronger our faith in God, the more Satan is trying to weaken us. Our strength comes from Christ and as long as we remain in His power, no one can knock us down, not even Satan. Therefore, as a member of the body of Christ we must arm ourselves with the armor that God has given us. “Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace; Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:” - Ephesians 6:11-17.

Today's Psalm: 139:16 - “Thine eyes did see my substance, yet being unperfect; and in thy book all my members were written, which in continuance were fashioned, when as yet there was none of them.
Today's Proverb: 11:17 - “The merciful man doeth good to his own soul: but he that is cruel troubleth his own flesh.
Today's Prayer: (taken from Psalm 143) God, Hear my prayer, O LORD, give ear to my supplications: in thy faithfulness answer me, and in thy righteousness. Cause me to hear thy lovingkindness in the morning; for in thee do I trust: cause me to know the way wherein I should walk; for I lift up my soul unto thee. Quicken me, O LORD, for thy name's sake: for thy righteousness' sake bring my soul out of trouble. In Jesus' name. Amen.
Enjoy the rest of your day/night. God Bless You, I am praying for you,
Christina
