Pointing out the Problem - 1 Corinthians 3.1-3

1 Corinthians 3:1-3 And I, brethren, could not speak unto you as unto spiritual, but as unto carnal, even as unto babes in Christ. I have fed you with milk, and not with meat: for hitherto ye were not able to bear it, neither yet now are ye able. For ye are yet carnal: for whereas there is among you envying, and strife, and divisions, are ye not carnal, and walk as men?

Focusing on verse 3, there four things that Paul was pointing out that showed these Corinthian people that they were being carnal.

1 Corinthians 3:3 “For ye are yet carnal: for whereas there is among you envying, and strife, and divisions, are ye not carnal, and walk as men?”

1. Envying – A zeal in jealousy (as of a husband) (Romans 13.13, Galatians 5.19-21)

2. Strife – Of uncertain affinity; a quarrel, contention, debate, variance (Romans 13.13, Galatians 5.19-21)

3. Divisions – Disunity, dissention (going against leadership), sedition (Proverbs 6.16-19 (19))

4. Carnal that walk as Men – contrasted as to the need to walk in the Spirit (Romans 8.1,4; Galatians 5.16, 25)

If we are willing to listen to this lesson that was given to the Corinthian people we might be able to understand when we are doing these things and stop it that we might continue to walk in the Spirit.  Consider the family relations, work relations and church relations when musing over this idea.  We need to be looking out for these things in our lives.  It will be a good check point to know we are carnal and not walking in the Spirit.

Ephesians 5:15-17 “See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise, Redeeming the time, because the days are evil. Wherefore be ye not unwise, but understanding what the will of the Lord is.”
