Consider Him
Psalm 8:3-4
Many things gain our attention in this world, but sometimes God doesn't.
The difference between the current generation and generations of history are astounding. What has been deemed as the "Information Age" has brought an onslaught of digital information in seemingly every area of our lives. Consider these facts:
-Scientists estimate nearly 62 billion emails are sent each day. -Google currently maintains a searchable index of over one trillion web pages.
-Every day eight billion text messages are sent (roughly 92,000 per second).
-Two thirds of all American homes have internet access.
Our world seems to be screaming for attention. The advertising industry has exploded in recent years and now generates billions of dollars in revenue every year. Companies spend top dollar on ads to sell people on their product. Newspapers, magazines, television commercials, billboards, web ads, and telemarketing calls flood our world with people screaming for attention for their company. Yet through all the noise of those begging for you to consider them, Jesus reaches out with a call of His own, a petition to stop and consider Him.
We take time to consider car advertisements when looking for a new car. We consider coupons when looking for a good deal. We consider the recommendation of others when trying a new product. We even consider signs and advertisements when looking for a church home. Yet how often do we consider Christ?
When was the last time you stopped life and considered God? When have you taken a day, a half day, or even a lunch break to step away from the madness of the world and focus on God and His glory?
We have become professionals at ignoring the calls of the world. We look past billboards, read around ads, and complain about the number of commercials. Sadly, many times we employ that tendency to ignore when God calls out to us. We're too busy, too stressed, too distracted, and too consumed with our life to listen to God.
Think of the Psalmist's words in Psalm 8:3-4, "When I consider thy heavens, the work of thy fingers, the moon and the stars, which thou hast ordained; What is man, that thou art mindful of him? and the son of man, that thou visitest him?" When was the last time you simply considered the beauty and majesty of nature? That God with one breath created the beautiful mountain ranges and oceans of the world is magnificent.
Taking time to consider God brings about a renewed sense of humility and reverence for God. The Psalmist said his consideration of God made him realize his insignificance. When you look at God and His plan for your life, your daily "to-do" list is put in perspective.
Plan a time today or soon this week when you can step away from your schedule and hurried life to listen to God. Consider His creation. Consider His holiness. Consider His will for your life. Take time to consider His call and leading in your life, and commit to following Him.
