Your Heart is Telling on You

Ezekiel 36:26
“A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh.”

In the Scriptures God places a big emphasis on the heart of man. The heart of man is the very center of man from whence everything comes. Proverbs 4:23 says about the heart, “Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.” According to this verse, everything that you choose to do in life originates from your heart. I like to put it this way: your heart is the central processing unit of your life. Whatever you put into your heart is eventually what will come out of it. This is why your heart tells on you, for it shows the real you on the inside.

According to the verse above, your heart affects your spirit. The reason why someone can tell that there is something wrong with a person’s heart is because their spirit has changed. Your heart affects your spirit. Though you may think that you can hide what is actually happening in your heart, you can’t because your spirit tells everyone what is happening in your heart.

In the Scriptures we learn there are several different types of a heart that a person can have. For instance, we find in Scripture the heart can be pure, new, clean, perfect, sincere, repentant, devout and tender. On the other hand, the heart can also be evil, wayward, rebellious, blind, divided, hardened, deceitful and proud. Your heart is one of these.

I ask you, what type of heart do you have? Do you have a heart that helps you have a good spirit, or do you have the type of heart that affects your spirit in an adverse way? The way to tell what kind of heart you have is by looking at what you are prone to do. For instance, if you are a person who tends to go wayward in your service to God, then you have a wayward heart. If you are a person who tends to rebel against God and authority, then you have a rebellious heart. If you tend to be a person who rejects the spiritual, then you have a hardened heart.

On the other hand, if you are a person who tends to want to be genuine in everything you do, then you have a sincere heart. If you are a person who tends to immediately get things right with God when you do wrong, then you have a repentant heart. On and on we could go to describe each of these types of heart.

Christian, your spirit is telling everyone what your heart is like. I encourage you to be sure you have a heart that will affect your spirit in a right way. Remember, your heart can only become what you feed it, so if you want to have a good heart that will give you a good spirit, then I would advise you feed your heart spiritual things. Have the type of heart that will show others through your spirit that you are a good Christian. The world needs Christians like this, your church needs Christians like this and those in your home need you to be a Christian like this. Watch your heart for it tells what you really are.
