Making God Big
Psalm 69:30
“I will praise the name of God with a song, and will magnify him with thanksgiving.”

Why is it that to some people God seems bigger than He does to others? When you listen to some people talk about God, you are encouraged and challenged to put God to the test so that you can see Him do great things in your life. Yet, when you listen to others, all you hear is how God didn't come through for them, and you would almost think that God is a terrible Person. I don't know about you, but I want God to be big in my life.

The verse above shows us how to make God big in our lives. The truth of the matter is this; God is as big as you make Him. When you study the verse above, you see that you are the only one who can either make God big or small in your life. The first two words in the verse above are, “I will...” In other words, you decide how big God is in your life by willing yourself to do what the verse says to do in order to make Him big.

Furthermore, you will notice that God does not make Himself big to us; we are the ones to make Him big. God will only become as big to us as we allow Him. The reason being is because the psalmist said, “I will...magnify him...” The word “magnify” means, “to make greater or make big.” In other words, I am the one who is supposed to put a magnifying glass over God to make Him big. God is not so small that we need to put a magnifying glass over Him to see Him, but our actions have caused us not to see the bigness of God. There are three ways we can magnify God in our life so that we can make Him bigger.

First of all, praise Him. The first thing the psalmist did in the verse above was to praise Him. Christian, your lack of praising God is what makes Him small to you. The only reason why you would not praise God is because you fail to recognize all He has done for you. Complaining is the opposite of praising. Whichever one you choose to do will help determine how big God is to you.

Secondly, singing God's praises helps to magnify God in your eyes. I can't stress enough the importance of singing. To be honest with you, I wonder about the heart of those who don't enjoy singing. Singing is a reflection of the heart. When someone doesn't like to sing, then most likely they are a complainer. When you praise God, singing will become a natural part of your life. When you look at the verse above, you will notice that singing is part of making God big.

Lastly, being thankful will help to magnify God in your eyes. In other words, the more you thank God for what He has done for you, the bigger He becomes in your eyes. The reason being is because you are seeing what God is doing for you instead of complaining about what He has not done for you. It all depends on YOUR perspective. If God is not that big in your life, it is only because you don't thank Him. God is only as big as your thanksgiving.

Let me ask you again, how big is God to you? However big God is to you is dependent upon your praising, singing and thanksgiving. Take the magnifying glass off of yourself and place it on God, for when you do you will see how big He truly is. Make it a part of your daily life to praise God, sing about Him and thank Him for what He has done. The more you do these things, the bigger God will become in your sight.

A very good word. I see you rely on the KJV as do I though I am not a member of the Baptist faith we serve the same God ;-) I'm wondering if you could recommend a good KJV study bible.
