Genesis 43 Reunion!
And he took and sent messes unto them from before him: but Benjamin's mess was five times so much as any of theirs. And they drank, and were merry with him. (v. 34)
What a blessed picture of the reunion of Christ with His church, When we gather together with Him at the “marriage supper of the Lamb,” in Heaven, what a glorious and joyful time that will be. We will be “merry with Him” as these brothers were with Joseph. We too have, at one time or another, rejected Him. The tears were tears of joy, and one would suppose that we too will be filled with great joy when we are united with our Lord. Whether there will be tears then or not isn’t a matter of concern, though the tears are not wiped away until after all is over and done, it seems. (Rev. 21: 4)
Jesus has been “sold out” by us, and went before us to “prepare a place” for us at Calvary, and when we are gathered together with Him, what a joyous time that will be! He too will host a supper of celebration and communion, and we will all participate that belong to His family. There will be “portions” and some will receive “five times as much” as others, or at least “a worthy portion” as Hannah did from Penuel. (1 Sam. 1:5)
Many claim that Joseph is not a “type” of Christ, or a picture of Him, so to speak, but look at all the similarities! Joseph was sold for 20 pieces of silver, and Jesus for 30; (Mt 26:15). Joseph was rejected of men, and so was Christ (Isa. 53)! Joseph was second in command, (41:40), “Only in the throne” was pharaoh greater, and so is the relationship with The Father and the Son; Joseph was innocently betrayed, and so was Jesus! There are many more likenesses. The whole world came to Joseph for sustenance, and the world must (truly) come to Jesus for all their needs. I believe one can carefully read this narrative and see many likenesses, and it cannot be denied that Joseph is, indeed, a type of Christ.
