Exodus 4 “I will be with thee”
“Now therefore go, and I will be with thy mouth, and teach thee what thou shalt say.” (v.12)
God has promised that, when we do His will, and if it glorifies Him, He would be with us all the way. Many say that Moses had a speech impediment, but I don’t think so, the Bible simply says he was not “eloquent,” or “good with words” as Aaron his brother was. We too often read into passages what isn’t really there. I’ve heard preachers say Moses “stuttered”, or that he talked with a lisp, but “eloquence” is “oratory”, or “the gift of gab” as we say today. At any rate, God was with his servant and provided Aaron as a spokesman for him.
Christ said something to this affect in Luke 12:11,12, when He told His disciples not to worry about what they would say when taken before magistrates on His behalf. He said that the Holy Spirit would teach them what to say in that same hour, He would give them the words when they needed them. We spend too much time worrying about these things when all we really need to do is to trust the Lord, and take Him at His word. If He told His disciples back then not to “plan their speeches” in their own defense, don’t you think He meant it for us today too? Just as the Lord was with Moses as He faced Pharaoh, He also was with John the Baptist when he accused the king of adultery before all; He was with Nathan the prophet when he went to King David and told him that he had sinned against God, saying “Thou art the man.” Don’t fear what to say on God’s behalf, oh soul winner, God will give you the appropriate words when necessary. After all, He wants to glorify His name, and build His Kingdom even more than we do! Too many times we don’t win souls because we “Don’t know what to say.” The easiest way is to tell them what happened to you, and how Jesus saved you!
