Give Thanks (v18)

In verse 18, we find that we need to give thanks IN EVERYTHING! There is no line of demarcation that says I only have to be thankful for when things are allowing me to prosper. I would like to start in Psalm let us look at what David says in Psalm 136”

Psalms 136:1 “O give thanks unto the LORD; for he is good: for his mercy endureth for ever.”

LORD –self-Existent one or Eternal “Jehovah”

Psalms 136:2 “O give thanks unto the God of gods: for his mercy endureth for ever.”

God – The showing of the supremacy of God “elohiym”

Psalms 136:3 “O give thanks to the Lord of lords: for his mercy endureth for ever.”

Lord – Sovereignty (ruler-ship) of God or “Adoni”

Psalms 136:26 “O give thanks unto the God of heaven: for his mercy endureth for ever.”

God – The strength of God “-el”

Giving thanks to God for who He is, and what He is – this is something that if we keep in our hearts and minds we would be less tempted to go our own way and sin. Who is God to you? There is a way to measure this in our lives – do we take all things to God in prayer? Knowing the circumstances of life – do we obey God first, that like as Abraham, knowing that He will take care of us?

The righteous will give thanks –

1 Chronicles 16:8 “Give thanks unto the LORD, call upon his name, make known his deeds among the people.”
Psalms 140:13
“Surely the righteous shall give thanks unto thy name: the upright shall dwell in thy presence.”
