08/22 Who God Wants Us To Be

Date: Wednesday August 22, 2012Today’s ChaptersJeremiah 43-45Message Title: Who God Wants Us To Be
Hello My Friend,
The Bible, the infallible, written Word of God, it’s the only book in the world that we have that allows us to understand God and know how we can live the best life we can here on earth. Every time you turn around someone is coming up with a new version to the Word of God, and while many accept that these versions are God’s Word, the truth is they are not. While we who know Jesus Christ personally as our Savior are all sinners saved by grace, instead of rewriting God into the image we want Him to be we need to stick to the truth and learn how to be who God wants us to be. “That wehenceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive; But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, evenChrist:” – Ephesians 4:14,15.
It had been ten days since Johanan and the people with him asked Jeremiah what God would have them do since the Chaldeans invaded Judah. God’s response, “Return to your homes and you will live, but go to Egypt and you will die.” However, they did not take the news very well, in fact, they came up with the conclusion that Jeremiah was lying to them and that Baruch, his scribe, was putting these ideas into his head. Instead of listening to Jeremiah they headed for Egypt, anyway, forcing Jeremiah and Baruch to go with them.
Then spake Azariah the son of Hoshaiah, and Johanan the son of Kareah, and all the proud men, saying unto Jeremiah, Thou speakest falsely: the LORD our God hath not sent thee to say, Go not into Egypt to sojourn there: But Baruch the son of Neriah setteth thee on against us, for to deliver us into the hand of the Chaldeans, that they might put us to death, and carry us away captives into Babylon. So Johanan the son of Kareah, and all the captains of the forces, and all the people, obeyed not the voice of the LORD, to dwell in the land of Judah. But Johanan the son of Kareah, and all the captains of the forces, took all the remnant of Judah, that were returned from all nations, whither they had been driven, to dwell in the land of Judah; Even men, and women, and children, and the king’s daughters, and every person that Nebuzaradan the captain of the guard had left with Gedaliah the son of Ahikam the son of Shaphan, and Jeremiah the prophet, and Baruch the son of Neriah.” – Jeremiah 43:2-6.
Nothing could have been more distressing to Jeremiah than being forced into Egypt as a prisoner of his own people, what was probably more distressing for him was that they were worshiping a false god. No matter what he said to them they were determined to do what they set in their minds to do. These rebellious, daring sinners, do not make excuses for their sins, but acknowledge them, refusing to give up their practices. They even convince themselves that it was because they stopped worshiping this false god that they were in trouble.“Then all the men which knew that their wives had burned incense unto other gods, and all the women that stood by, a great multitude, even all the people that dwelt in the land of Egypt, in Pathros, answered Jeremiah, saying, As for the word that thou hast spoken unto us in the name of the LORD, we will not hearken unto thee. But we will certainly do whatsoever thing goeth forth out of our own mouth, to burn incense unto the queen of heaven, and to pour out drink offerings unto her, as we have done, we, and our fathers, our kings, and our princes, in the cities of Judah, and in the streets of Jerusalem: for then had we plenty of victuals, and were well, and saw no evil. But since we left off to burn incense to the queen of heaven, and to pour out drink offerings unto her, we have wanted all things, and have been consumed by the sword and by the famine.” – Jeremiah 44:15-18.
The biggest deception of the devil is false religion, he feeds off of the flesh and reels people in by giving them things that appeal to their egos and lusts, once he gets them hooked bad things start to happen, then the first person they blame is God. God even tries to help them, but they refuse, in which God leaves them up to their own devices. “Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened. Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools, And even as they did not like to retain God intheir knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient; Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them.” – Romans 1:21,22,28,32.
Since the Jews would not listen to reason and were determined to follow their false religion, God could not protect them and gave them up to their own devices. They would all die by their false religion, except for a few, who would not follow the crowd. “Therefore hear ye the word of the LORD, all Judah that dwell in the land of Egypt; Behold, I have sworn by my great name, saith the LORD, that my name shall no more be named in the mouth of any man of Judah in all the land of Egypt, saying, The Lord GOD liveth. Behold, I will watch over them for evil, and not for good: and all the men of Judah that are in the land of Egypt shall be consumed by the sword and by the famine, until there be an end of them. Yet a small number that escape the sword shall return out of the land of Egypt into the land of Judah, and all the remnant of Judah, that are gone into the land of Egypt to sojourn there, shall know whose words shall stand, mine, or theirs. And this shall be a sign unto you, saith the LORD, that I will punish you in this place, that ye may know that my words shall surely stand against you for evil:” – Jeremiah 44:26-29.
In this world of false religion and rejection of God’s Word we who stand by the truth must not let anything or anyone stop us from living by and telling the truth to others. We have one judge and that is Jesus Christ, when we die we will all stand before His throne and anyone who forsook Him for false gods and false religion, and anyone who were deceived by these people into believing in them, will be punished. Only those who escape the sword by receiving Christ will live. People can alter God’s Word all they want to justify their actions or live the way they want to live, but that does not change God, He is the same today as He was yesterday and He will be the same tomorrow. “He that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be my son.
But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.” – Revelation 21:7,8.
Today’s Prayer: God, We want to live the best life we can possibly live here on earth by Your truths and not by some religion. Lord, teach us Your truths and how to transform our minds into living by every one of Your words. Give us Your power to stand by Your Word, live by Your Word, and not be ashamed to tell it to others. Help us to be strong and live my faith and not by sight, as long as we trust You we will overcome everything that the devil tries to knock us down with. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
