Moving Days (Pt 3 of the Woman at the Well)
The men showed up one by one,
staring in wonder at each other. When she made it back to the well, the motley
crew was already talking with Jesus. Amazingly, the men were enjoying their
conversation with Jesus. When the sun began to set, the men received assurance
from Jesus that He would stay longer.
She awoke the next morning,
ambition welling inside. She washed and
brushed her hair and put on clean clothes. She couldn't remember waking to a
day with as much purpose. She cheerfully bathed the kids from six different men
and hurriedly knocked the dust off their clothes. After feeding them, she led
them back to the well. The kids noticed that Mom was different this morning -
good different, happy different.
When they arrived, the men were
back - with more of their friends! The thrill of seeing these hardened,
cold-hearted, gruff and oftentimes abusive men softening before her eyes, moved
her.
Later, the men reminded her that
it wasn't her words that made a change, but that they had heard Jesus. She knew that they wouldn't have come if she
hadn't influenced them.
She thought of how her life had
gone from miserable, to memorable to absolutely moving, simply because of
Jesus. Her greatest thrill in life was meeting Jesus. The second was bringing the
people she cared about to Jesus.
She and the kids headed home that
day with gladness in her heart, a song on her lips and hope in her life.
"And many of the Samaritans of that city believed on him for the
saying of the woman, which testified, He told me all that ever I did. So when
the Samaritans were come unto him, they besought him that he would tarry with
them: and he abode there two days. And many more believed because of his own
word; And said unto the woman, Now we believe, not because of thy saying: for
we have heard him ourselves,
and know that this is indeed the Christ, the Saviour of the world." John
4:39-42.
