“Junior came home and Dad throws a party?
Seriously?” The big brother said red-faced when he heard the news. “Dad is
unbelievable!” He stomped off back into the field murmuring. He put his all
anger into his work.
Years ago I replaced a windshield
in a car and crumpled up the old one and put it in the trashcan for the garbage
man. When he came, he kicked the garbage
can over and left. “Isn’t that where and
how I am supposed to put the refuse?” I asked when I called up the company.
They agreed and had “Mr. Surly” come and get it anyway. He wasted a good “mad”
on something he should not have gotten angry over.
Junior wasted a good mad, when he
could have been enjoying himself with his family. He sulked, grumped, possibly
kicked some dirt around and fussed about his father. He allowed jealousy to
enter into his heart.
Oh how easily jealousy can enter
into our hearts. The trick is to recognize it BEFORE it becomes a problem.
Sometimes the anger comes out against some innocent person. Perhaps the garbage
man was angry about something else entirely. Maybe a co-worker was promoted to
the position he wanted. In this case he would have been angry with his boss.

“Now his elder son was in the
field: and as he came and drew nigh to the house, he heard musick and dancing.
And he called one of the servants, and asked what these things meant. And he
said unto him, Thy brother is come; and thy father hath killed the fatted calf,
because he hath received him safe and sound. And he was angry, and would not go
in:” Luke 15:25-28a.
