2-10-16 The Bunny under the Deck

We owned a house once that had a very nice composite deck on it. The cottontails enjoyed it because it was low to the ground and they could hide under it. They never hurt anything, so I let them live under it…until one day.

A bunny died under the deck. I tried to remove his body, but I couldn’t reach it. It would just have to stink a while. The hot humid rainy weather contributed to the stench. The flies went to work on the carcass, which produced very large relatives and we endured the nasty odor for a while.

The living cottontails were fun to watch frolic in the yard, but the dead one was offensive and worthless. I blocked the opening so that future rabbits could not die under the deck.

Faith that is alive is just as enjoyable and a pleasure to experience in action, but dead faith stinks and is just as worthless as a rotting bunny. There is nothing enjoyable about it.

Is my faith a joy or does it stink of death?

“But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead?” James 2:20.
