Building Your Credit
Numbers 30:16
“These are the statutes, which the LORD commanded Moses, between a man and his wife, between the father and his daughter, being yet in her youth in her father's house.”
Building good credit is always based upon how you follow through with what you said you would do. For instance, when you go to get a loan from a bank, they will check your credit history to see how you followed through on your previous or current financial agreements. Every time you pay a bill on time with those whom you have financial agreements, you are helping to build your credit.
The verse above deals with the same philosophy. God said in Proverbs 22:1, “A good name is rather to be chosen than great riches, and loving favour rather than silver and gold.” One way you help yourself to have a good name is to be current with your bills. Of all the people with whom you want to be sure to have a good name, God should be at the top of your list Following through on the vows that you promise God will help you to build a good name or credit history with Him.
God teaches us in Numbers 30 that you should be careful about what you promise Him. Just like you should be careful about what size loan you try to acquire, you should be careful about what vows you make to God. You should never make a vow to God that you cannot fulfill. Before you ever make a vow to God, be sure that you know a way to fulfill that vow. Making vows with God is like getting loans from the bank; you better have the wherewithal to pay that vow, for if you don’t, the consequences are severe. When you do make a vow with God, be sure to keep your promise. Building good credit with God will allow you to get more from God later on when you make another promise.
Furthermore, when a wife or child makes a vow to God, the husband or dad needs to be sure to listen to the vow they made. Ultimately, the man of the house is responsible to God for making sure those in his household can fulfill their vows. In other words, the man is a co-signer with his wife or child when they make a vow to God. He needs to be sure that they can pay the vow. If they can't, then he should void the vow knowing the consequences of not following through are big.
Let me ask you, do you have a good credit history with God? Have you defaulted on some of the vows you made to God? Remember, there is going to come a day when you will need something from God. In order to get what you need from God, you will have to vow to Him that you will do something if He will give you what you need. If you don't have good credit history with God, then God, knowing your credit history with Him, will be unlikely to give you what you need. Be sure to keep your vows with God so that when you need something from Him, you have built your credit in such a manner that He can trust you will follow through with your promise to Him.
