What God Requires of You

Deuteronomy 10:12

“And now, Israel, what doth the LORD thy God require of thee, but to fear the LORD thy God, to walk in all his ways, and to love him, and to serve the LORD thy God with all thy heart and with all thy soul,”

Serving God is not a complex thing to understand. Too many preachers in our present day make it sound real difficult, but God makes is very simple for everyone to understand and do.

In the verse above, God told Israel what He required of them. When you look at the requirements that God had for Israel, you will realize that they are the same requirements that He has for every Christian. Furthermore, if a Christian will follow these requirements, then he will be able to obey every command of God. Let me show you the requirements God has for you.

First of all, God requires you to fear Him. Fearing God is not trembling because you are afraid of what God will do to you, but fearing God is a respect of the capability of His power. When a person fears God they will understand that His power can punish them if they do wrong. Also, the person who fears God will understand that the same power that can hurt them can also help them to accomplish great things for Him.

Secondly, God requires you to walk in His ways. Notice that God did not say some of His ways, but that He requires you to walk in “...all his ways...” As a Christian you are to obey every command that God has given you. This is not a choice, but a requirement from God.

Thirdly, God requires you to love Him. When you study all of the Scriptures you will understand that God requires you to love Him more than anything or anyone else. God is to be your first love. God does not want to be second place in your life, but He wants to be first place in your life. God desires and requires that you make Him the number one love of your life.

Lastly, God requires you to serve Him. You will notice that you are not to serve Him flippantly, but you are required to serve Him with all of your heart and soul. In other words, God wants you to serve Him with every part of your being and emotions. God wants you to give it your all when you serve Him.

When you look at this list, do you find yourself waning a bit in one of these areas? Remember that these are requirements from God. Periodically do a spiritual check up on yourself and be sure that you are fulfilling these requirements that God has for you. The blessings of God on your life are dependent upon how well you follow His requirements.
