Rejecting the Word
1 Samuel 15:26
Saul is a classic example of wasted talent. When you look at the calling in Saul’s life, you see that everyone, including God, thought he was the best person for the job. Yes, you always have your naysayers, but on the majority Saul was the perfect person to fill the position of being king of Israel.
Not long after Saul was anointed king of Israel, God commanded Saul to completely destroy the Amalekites. The Amalekites had troubled Israel when they wandered through the wilderness, and God said that He would completely destroy them one day. Saul was the tool that God wanted to use to destroy this wicked nation, but instead he thought he knew better than God. When Saul went to war against the Amalekites, the Scriptures state that he saved the best of the flocks and also the king of the Amalekites.
In the verse above we see that God rejected Saul as king because of this action. What made this sin so bad was that Saul rejected God's Word. Though in word Saul said he believed the Word of the LORD, in action he rejected God's Word.
What a powerful word God used to describe Saul's sin when He used the word “rejected.” The word rejected” means “to throw away as useless; to forsake; to refuse to accept; or to refuse to receive.” In other words, Saul's actions said that he knew more than God, thus throwing God's Word away and refusing to accept God's Word as the authority.
Christian, I fear too many times there are people who say they believe God's Word, but their actions say otherwise. You can stand up and defend the King James Bible, but the best defense of the King James Bible is to live how It tells you to live. To say one thing and to live another is simply hypocritical. For anyone to disobey God's Word is to reject His Word as did Saul.
Let me ask you, are you throwing away God's Word as useless by your actions? In other words, do you hear and read God's Word and yet throw It away and do your own thing? Do you think the Scriptures don't work for today's situations? Christian, all you need to do is look at your life and see if it mirrors what God's Word commands of you. If your life doesn't mirror God's commands, then you have rejected the Word of God.
Though all of us at times are guilty of rejecting God's Word, be careful that you don't make this a common occurrence in your life. Always realize that God's Word is relevant for today. You must trust God that His Word will still work today even if you may think It won't work. Don't let your rejection of God's Word through your lifestyle be the thing that causes God to reject you.
Don't just defend God's Word with your mouth, but be a defender of God's Word with your actions. Defending God's Word with your actions is the best defense of the Word of God that a Christian can ever use and a good way to get God’s blessing upon your life.
