The Power of the Holy Ghost!
This chapter seems to be the one that is a transition. Jesus was ascended up and things are now different.
We have power (from the Holy Spirit)
Acts 1:8 (KJV) “But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.”
Here we are told that the power of witnessing comes from the Holy Ghost. So if that is true, and our witness is weak, what have we done to not rely on the Holy Ghost for guidance and power?
Ephesians 4:30 (KJV) “And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption.”
The word “grieve” here means to distress; reflexively or passively, to be sad
1 Thessalonians 5:19 (KJV) “Quench not the Spirit.”
The word “quench” here means to extinguish
If we think about it in both cases we see that we have the part of quenching or grieving the Holy Spirit of God.
“Quenching is what you do to the Spirit, grieving is how He responds to what you did. Grieving speaks of the personal anguish of the Holy Spirit when a believer quenches the holy fire that He has kindled in the heart. You do not quench the Holy Spirit without grieving the Holy Spirit and you will not grieve the Holy Spirit unless you quench the Holy Spirit, there simply two sides of the same problem...one describes what you do, the other describes what He does.”
Acts 1:26 (KJV) “And they gave forth their lots; and the lot fell upon Matthias; and he was numbered with the eleven apostles.”
