Joshua 6 – The Wall
Hebrews 11:30 “By faith the walls of Jericho fell down, after they were compassed about seven days.”
In this chapter, we are going to see the first encounter of the heathen nations with Jericho. In this, as it was stated in Hebrews 11.30, it was by faith that the walls of Jericho fell down, FAITH?
Instructions:
In this passage, there was a plan that needed to be followed God gave Joshua a specific way in which they were to attack Jericho. Some questions that we might need to think about
1. What was the silence for six days for?
This I was thinking of the thoughts of the men and women could be on the awesomeness of the walls, and then the awesomeness of God to take the walls down.
2. What was the walking around the city for?
I was thinking here that the walk could have been used to see all that was there. To know what they were up against.
3. What application could we apply here in our own lives?
The idea of walls the way today that we use walls
With these walls, are we using them to get away from God, or from the things of this world?
a. Protection – This is an all-encompassing wall around you.
b.Defense – A place that is used to defend you, hide behind…in war?
c. Hiding place – This can be used to hide from God, and from man.
d. Safety – From the outside elements and the chaotic world, we live in.
e. Separation – Making distinct marks in the “sand” to know where to go and where not too.
f. Solitude – Some peace in life is that no one can see through the walls that are there.
g. Stability – Just like in a home, there is stability in making things, as God would want them.
h. Defiance – Getting behind the wall and not doing the work that you should be doing!
What walls do we have up? Do we have walls to “get away” from the truth? Are our walls there to shut God out? Examine the walls that you have up; walls are not bad to have, unless they are used in sinful acts.
What is it going to take to get the walls down that are not for the right reasons? Are you going to take them down, or will God have to bring them down?
Proverbs 25:28 “He that hath no rule over his own spirit is like a city that is broken down, and without walls.”
Ephesians 2:14 “For he is our peace, who hath made both one, and hath broken down the middle wall of partition between us;” (between Jews and Gentiles)
