9/2 Devotions from God’s Word

Are you ready to follow?

Genesis 7, Matthew 4

There is a common theme that I learned. First it is Noah – By faith followed God by building the ark, and then went into it as God commanded. This was all done by a man that took God at his word: Genesis 7:12 “And the rain was upon the earth forty days and forty nights.” Noah, not knowing what rain was, nor did he not understand possibly what a flood was. But he took God at His word and Stayed in the fight. He rolled up his sleeves and preached God. Noah, he had a specific task that he needed to perform. Not knowing the outcome or even understanding the outcome we need to follow the instructions of the Father.

Secondly was Peter, Andrew, James and John followed Jesus at His word. Matthew 4:19 “And he saith unto them, Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.” Here these men like Noah followed God by His word. I am not sure if these men ever heard of the phrase “fishers of men” before. These men also stood and fought for God not truly understanding the outcome. We know that they fell at times (as we all do), but they got back up and continued in the fight. We may never know the outcome of our witnessing - we don’t have too!

What an awesome thought as we go about our day and look to Jesus and take him at his word for our lives. He told us to do witness – He will take of the saving, that is why I call it calling. There are two verses that comes to mind as I consider this thing called faith that is Romans 14:23 “And he that doubteth is damned if he eat, because he eateth not of faith: for whatsoever is not of faith is sin.” Hebrews 11:6 “But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.”
