9/3 Devotions from God’s Word

HOME SICK?

In the Navy we have, various sicknesses only dedicated to the Navy. We have I broke my fingernail sickness; I sprained my eyebrow, (which would land you in the clinic for about 8 hours) and the most famous seasickness. Today I want to talk about Home Sickness. This is one of those sicknesses that is never made fun of, in fact it also comes with a Channel Fever.
Now there are some “symptoms” that we have with this sickness.

We desire:

1. Communication – Prayer

PRINCIPLE OF PRAYER

a. Matthew 6.9-13
v9 praise, v10 God’s will, v11 Daily needs, v12 Forgiveness, v13 No Evil

b. Luke 18.1 – Always to pray and not to faint

c. Romans 12.12 – Continuing in prayer

d. Ephesians 6.18 – Part of the armor of God

e. 1 Thessalonians 5.17 – Always communicating

2. To hear from loved ones – Reading God’s Word

The commission of Joshua – Joshua 1.5-9

Joshua 1:8 “This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.”

Psalms 1:1-3 “Blessed [is] the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. 2 But his delight [is] in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night. 3 And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.”

3. Desire for family time – Fellowship with God

Do we have fellowship with God? Let us look at 1John 1.1-10

a. We must be right with God to get this fellowship with Him.

1 John 1:8 “If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.” (Sin Nature)

1 John 1:10 “If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.” (Sin committed)

4. Hope for the Reunion – Christ coming for us

Romans 15:13 “Now the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that ye may abound in hope, through the power of the Holy Ghost.”

          Titus 1:2 “In hope of eternal life, which God, that cannot lie, promised before the world began;

Titus 2:13 “Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ;”

Titus 3:7 “That being justified by his grace, we should be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life.”

          Hebrews 6.17-20

1 Peter 3:15 “But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and [be] ready always to [give] an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear:”

To the non-believer there is no hope for these things. These things only come from God. His love passes all understanding, and He is inviting you to become part of the family through salvation. (Romans 9.30 – 10.4)

2 Peter 3:9 “The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.”
