“Be sure to check the oil every
day,” the manager admonished us drivers often. The linen delivery trucks seemed
to use quite a bit, so it was a wise thing to do. One of the other drivers
didn’t listen and ruined a motor. While that truck was in the shop, he ruined
the motor in the spare truck by not checking the oil.
“You know better – check the oil
or you will be looking for another job.” I overheard the manager as he loudly
advised the other driver. His excuse of being forgetful didn’t set well with
the boss. Things went ok for a while, but one day the other driver was no
longer employed there and the truck was in the shop again.
The drivers that checked the oil
every day, never had any problem with the boss. In fact, the manager rewarded
them with a bonus and the honor of “Employee of the Month” etc.
This verse is telling me
basically the same thing. Once I have been warned and have the information I
need to do right, I know better than to defy it or forget it. I know that doing
right brings the opposite of harsh consequences. It brings blessings.
Now all I need do is remember
that.
“But whoso looketh into the
perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful
hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed.” James
1:25.
