Man Oh Man, a Manly Man!
"If you don't play sports,
you are not a man," a sports fanatic told me one day. Another time, an outdoorsman said, "If
you don't hunt and fish, you are not a man." I used the same reply on both
of them, "If you can't change the oil in your own car, you are not a
man." They both looked at me with that blink-and-stare look.
The point is that real men are
men from all walks of life. One particular skill, vocation, recreation choice, activity
or physical attributes doesn't make a man a man. What makes a man a manly man? One
that is decidedly masculine no matter his size or disability, yet not a jerk, one
that is a gentleman, yet tenacious and strong to stand for what is right, one
that has courage, yet would die for another, one that is not afraid to be
called a Christian.
It annoys me tremendously when
people depict Jesus as effeminate. I see him as a carpenter with muscles, calluses
and weathered skin from his labors, a model employee with a fine reputation for
quality, a person with a pleasant demeanor and a great person to work with - or
for. He is the perfect example of a
manly man - not a beer guzzlin', cigarette smokin' potty mouth. He is a man's
man.
"When Jesus came into the coasts of Caesarea Philippi, he asked
his disciples, saying, Whom do men say that I the Son of man am? And they said,
Some say that thou art John the
Baptist: some, Elias; and others, Jeremias, or one of the prophets." Mat 16:13-14
