4/9 Life in the Parkie Lane

Ya Don't Get No Deader Than Dead!

I used to work with a guy that would come up with some jewels of "wisdom."  As I talked with him during break one day, I asked him if he knew whether he would go to heaven after he died.  Butch replied, "When you're dead, you're dead and ya don't get no deader than dead!"

He was defining death as lifelessness, but that's not the only definition. Our souls live on after the body dies. In this sense, death is separation.  Our souls will separate from our body and live on in heaven or hell - eternal life or eternal death (separation from God).  When you're dead (the body dies).  However, you are not truly dead yet - until the second death, when the unsaved are separated from God forever in the lake of fire.

Imagine for a moment, being separated from God.  All that is good, all love, and all hope and comfort is gone - for eternity!  Eternal death will be torment, hopelessness, pain and sorrow. All those things the devil causes. As hard as this life is, God is with us giving us hope, love and goodness in the midst of trials, tribulations, disease.

God loves us so much that He provided a way for us to escape this event.  He gave us the opportunity to be born again.  Thus, born once - die twice, born twice - die once. I am so glad that I was born twice!

"And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death." Revelation 20:14
