Y2K, remember that scare? Fear mongers were running amuck saying how
the world was going to end because all the computers would crash - even our
toasters that have a microchip would quit working. People bought generators so they could have
electricity. They stocked up on food and
water, clothing and other necessities. They
gathered together with friends who had wood heat on New Years Eve 2000 , so
they wouldn't freeze when everything would shut down. Very few put faith in God
to take care of them. But alas, nothing happened.
The ozone layer is getting
bigger. In the '70's we were doomed to
endure another ice age, now it is global warming. Health fanatics are warning
of dangers in our food and water. Prophecy preachers are crying that the end is
near. Conspiracy theorists spread their concerns. Government corruption and the
decay of morality great us every day. It leaves me wanting to wring my hands
crying "What will we do, what will we do?"
The Chicken Little mentality is
alive and well. If I remember the story
right, a pine cone fell on Chicken Little's head and he ran throughout the
barnyard crying, "The sky is falling, the sky is falling," to anyone
that would listen. Many of the barnyard
animals joined him.
All these cries of warning, both
true and untrue, become an overwhelming cacophony making me want to hide from
everything. My personal life has enough
uncertainty to be concerned about.
Parkinson's is unpredictable - but then life itself is unpredictable. I
need simply to trust in God. He is right
beside me.
"For I the LORD thy God will hold thy right hand, saying unto
thee, Fear not; I will help thee." Isaiah 41:13.
