I find it
interesting that God built people to laugh.
He gave them a sense of humor, and He says it is healthy to laugh (Proverbs 15:13 …A merry heart maketh a cheerful countenance: Proverbs 15:15 …he that is of a merry heart hath a continual feast. Proverbs 17:22 A merry heart doeth good like a medicine).
Some people
appreciate humor, while some invent and deliver it. Humor is like flavors, some people prefer
different types of humor, but all enjoy humor. Others feel they are too
sophisticated for it, and read the funny pages of the newspaper on the sly,
while others go there first.
You never know
where, or when, you will find humor. One
day, I noticed a sign that read, “Sidewalk closed.” No big deal, except that
someone had placed it in a grassy area. There wasn’t even a pathway worn in the
sod. Humor is everywhere. We just need to look for it
Jesus used funny
visuals to make points. We remember
things better if they are funny (Mark 10:25 It is easier for a camel to go through the
eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God ). Does your imagination think about this ridiculous concept? My mind tries to rubberize the camel, and
stretch him until he looks like a rubber band, squeaking as he goes through. I know, I think differently than many people,
but that is funny to me.
(Luke 6:39 And he spake a parable unto them, Can the blind lead the blind? shall
they not both fall into the ditch) I
imagine the two stumbling along, bumping into things and people, until they
topple into a ditch. I imagine people have offered them help; they refused, and
now are dealing with the consequences of wallowing around in the mud.
(Luke 8:16
No man, when he hath lighted a candle, covereth it with a vessel, or
putteth it under a bed; but
setteth it on a candlestick,
that they which enter in may see the light). The idea of a candlestick lit in a room is the
same concept as a nightlight. However, a
candlestick has a flame. I can imagine
what would happen if it was put under a bed.
Pandemonium! Humor, it’s in the
Bible!
