Victory In Jesus

Victory over Fear

In this chapter of Numbers we see that he children of Israel are on the doubtandfearbrink of going into the Promised Land.  God commands Moses to send men to the land of Canaan, one man from each tribe - Numbers 13:1-2 “And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying, Send thou men, that they may search the land of Canaan, which I give unto the children of Israel: of every tribe of their fathers shall ye send a man, every one a ruler among them.”

What did the ten spies focus on? Could this be a good thing?

The ten spies focused on the outward appearance of the people that were living in the land that God had promised for them to have. Numbers 13:33“And there we saw the giants, the sons of Anak, which come of the giants: and we were in our own sight as grasshoppers, and so we were in their sight.”

There is something to be said about fear:

It grips us without hands

It holds us back without arms,

It runs after us with no legs.

However, in 2 Timothy 1:7 “For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.

THROUGH CHRIST WE HAVE THE VICTORY OVER FEAR!

Fear of Past (Paul)

There might be many things in our past that we are ashamed of. There are many things in which could come back and haunt us.  When we get save, we are renewed - we may still live with the consequences of some poor choices, however we do not need to fear what is going to take place.

2 Corinthians 5:20-21 "Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ's stead, be ye reconciled to God. For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him."

(Acts 8:1-4) I think of Paul in this aspect.  He was the one that cause great heartache amongst the believers, he persecuted them as if he was doing the Lord's work. All of this until he decided to go to Damascus - that's where Jesus met up with him and changed his life forever.  He had a rough start, other men did questioned God when He told them to help Paul.

As many know, Paul was used in a very great way to promote the gospel, start churches, and change lives.  His life in the past was not good, but God can change it all and make everything new – new purpose, new beginning, a new focus…

2 Corinthians 5:17-18 “Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation;”

Fear of Present (Peter)

In Matthew 14 we have the account where Peter recognizes the Lord.  He then proceeds to prove Jesus – Matthew 14:28 “And Peter answered him and said, Lord, if it be thou, bid me come unto thee on the water.”  Trusting in Jesus he takes the next step onto the water – then…

Matthew 14:30 "But when he saw the wind boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink, he cried, saying, Lord, save me."

I think Peter here gets a bad rap here, though  Jesus did reprimand him for having little faith, however from my standpoint, I would like to commend Him.  He sought Jesus for help and did not try to swim back to the boat on his own accord.  He did walk on water until he took his eyes off Jesus.

We will face clear and present dangers, at times it will seem as all hope is lost - Jesus gave us the victory over fear. The situation may not seem favorable, however the Lord can and will get you through with grace and dignity.  The Lord, upon Jesus’, death sent us a Comforter – one that will be there with us, guide us through the truth…

John 14:26-27 “But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you. Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.”

Fear of the Future (You)

In our future circumstances may hit us unexpectedly, some same premeditated. However we do not know what tomorrow may bring. One phone call can change the outcome of our lives as we know it.  Through whom or what do you look into future?

Jesus has given to us the victory already, we are waiting to claim our crowns to cast them at His feet.  Are you a child of God, have you believed on Jesus?  Have you asked Jesus to forgive you of your sins?  For us to claim this victory we must be in the family.  Just like when a football team wins Super Bowl, you must be on the team to get the ring.

God states many times in His word that He wants everyone to come to know Him.  He loves everyone and desires relationship with them.  On the right hand side of this page is the verses that will help you know more about salvation.  If this is a decision you make, contact me and I can help find a good church for you to share your decision.  Once this decision is made, then we need to focus on God, like Peter should have…

Matthew 6:33-34 "But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof."

Christian, what an awesome thought to consider when facing the future. I will say when we face the future if we are on our own, not seeking God, then we should fear, however God has given the prescription of not having to fear the future - "But seek ye first the kingdom of God..."

James 4:13-15 "Go to now, ye that say, To day or to morrow we will go into such a city, and continue there a year, and buy and sell, and get gain: Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away. For that ye ought to say, If the Lord will, we shall live, and do this, or that."

Let's look at 2 Samuel 22:1-7

Not being afraid is more than a frame of mind or a determination of the will. It is the outpouring of God in our lives to keep us safe - no matter what the circumstance is.  We need to stay close to God and go the way He goes.
