The father looked out the window
to see his daughter get out of the passenger side in a beat up car. The driver
stayed behind the wheel to honk the horn whenever the urge struck him. The
daughter walked past her dad without a word, when he held the door open for
her. She took some things out of her
dresser, stuffed them into a bag and went out to the car. The boy, with definite aversion to
cleanliness followed her back inside. He carried some heavy items to the car
and struggled to stuff the stuff into the car. The father watched as she ran
off with the guy.
Every day the father and mother
watched for their prodigal gal to come home.
Every day they expected her to arrive with a grandchild. Every day they prayed for and thought about
their prodigal gal. Every day they feared the worst.
The feelings are the same whether
it’s a son or daughter – it just happens a little differently. The child racks
up regrets, but the parent can only watch and wait.
My Heavenly Father does the same
thing. He will let me go, if that is
what it takes to get things right with Him. Meanwhile, the sin causes scars and
pounds wedges into relationships. Plus,
it produces many wasted years.
“And not many days after the younger son gathered all together, and
took his journey into a far country, and there wasted his substance with
riotous living.” Luke 15:13.
