7-29-15 Must Be Nice

Do you ever find yourself saying stuff to yourself like, "Why do the newly saved get all the attention? No one appreciates me… Must be nice?”

I remember someone giving my pastor a hard time about something for which they were jealous.  They said, “Well, it must be nice.”

“When God blesses, it is nice,” he replied matter-of-factly.

In this passage, the elder son had unloaded on his father that his worthless little brother was getting all the attention and that wasn’t fair in his mind. If anything can be taken wrong, it will.  So, the father attempted to explain and convince his elder son to come to the “Welcome Home” party. He reminded Junior Senior that he was already blessed. He had access to everything. He had a nice place to live, great food, clothing supplied and transportation when he needed it. His father took care of his medical expenses, too.  He blessed his son abundantly, but his son basically said, “It must be nice…” when he saw his brother blessed.

Isn’t being human amazing? How does God put up with us? We want the blessings of God, then get jealous when God blesses someone else when we should be rejoicing with them.
“And he said unto him, Son, thou art ever with me, and all that I have is thine.” Luke 15:31.
